Basic immigration – students
This course will provide an introduction to the UK system of immigration
control as it affects those coming to study in the UK. It will explore
immigration rules and procedures for those applying to enter or extend
their stay in the UK under the ‘student’ category of the Immigration Rules.
Course aim
To enable those working with international students to advise on straightforward applications for entry clearance, leave to enter or leave to remain for study in the UK.
Course objectives
Participants will be able to:
- identify key requirements in the Immigration Rules for those who want to study in the UK
- advise students about straightforward applications for entry clearance, or extensions of stay for study
- introduce key points of basic good practice in dealing with student immigration applications

Course details
This course is suitable for:
those offering, or planning to offer, advice to students in making straightforward
applications for permission to enter or extend their stay in the UK. The
course is intended to reflect activity at Level 1 of the OISC’s Guidance
on Competence for student advisers in institutions covered by the Ministerial
Order exempting them from registration with the OISC.
This course is a component of the Certificate for International Education
Professionals.
